The Air Force’s E-4B Nightwatch airborne command post carries the Square B tail insignia in honor of the famed 95th Bombardment Group, a World War II bomber unit that earned three Presidential Unit Citations. The insignia, a black square with a white “B,” was originally used during World War II to identify B-17 Flying Fortresses assigned to the group. On 26 June, the first E-4B bearing the Square B tail flash was unveiled at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, during the 95th Wing’s Heritage Week.
