Produced to the highest standards, Herpa diecast metal models are developed in collaboration with aircraft manufacturers and the airlines and are recognized by discerning model airplane collectors worldwide for their unparalleled, accurate realism, attention to detail and exceptional quality. True-to-scale, this Herpa 1/500 scale British Airways Aerospatiale/BAC Concorde, which is featured in its Landor livery - with the British Airways crest and abstract Union flag elegantly emblazoned on the aircraft's tail along with its nose in the down position - measures approximately 4-7/8-inches long with a 2-inch wingspan. A Display Stand is not included and is sold separately - Herpa HE521024. With a maximum speed slightly over twice the speed of sound at cruise altitude - Mach 2.04 / 1,354 mph / 2,180 km/h - the Aerospatiale/BAC Concorde was jointly developed by the French and British manufacturers, Aerospatiale and British Aircraft Corporation, and operated in service from 1976 until 2003. Appreciated for its high-speed transatlantic crossings and ultra-luxurious service, Air France and British Airways were the only two airlines to purchase and fly the Concorde, with a total of 20 aircraft, including prototypes, having been manufactured. Configured to fly from 92 up to 128 passengers, the Concorde flew regular flights from London and Paris to New York and Washington, DC in less than half the time that it took in other types of aircraft, which at the time, were generally large subsonic commercial airliners. Recognized by its slender delta wing design and its long, pointed drooping nose, which was lowered by pilots while taxiing, taking off and landing to prevent their view from being obstructed, the technologically advanced Concorde was the first airliner to employ a fly-by-wire flight-control system.
